Presenting.... presents!

Hey crafty friends... hope you are having a terrific day and a wonderful week. Despite the calendar saying November, the sun has still been shining here so I'm very grateful. Although the temperatures are starting to stay in the single digits... I'm not complaining though.  There's no snow! Here's a picture I took downtown yesterday (no filter ;) )

At Seize the Birthday this week, we are playing with presents!  Went very CAS with my card this week and I think it turned out pretty well. I'm usually not one to tie bows but thought this card needed one.

Stop by the blog to see the rest of the fabulous DT creations and give them some love!  All the details on how to play along are there too. Oh and FYI: we are taking December off so the challenges will resume in January.  Maybe I'll actually make some more "just for fun" cards to share!  LOL.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Always appreciate it!  Have a great upcoming weekend.

Striking Stencils

Happy Thursday crafty friends.  Welcome to another Seize the Birthday challenge!  This week we are playing with stencils.  Remember, the 'topping' is always an option.  I borrowed a friend's stencil and inks for this card.  The power went out while I was doing it so had to finish it by flash light (that was a few weeks ago)!  Looking at this card, I am reminded that I need to work on my blending technique!

Hope you get a chance to play along this week.  All the requirements for playing along are on the blog.  Be sure to give some love to all of the design team while you are there too.  There are some awesome creations!

My hubby and I went away on a little mini-vacation for a couple of days this week.  It's just a few hours north of here, on the west coast of Vancouver Island... a little place called Tofino. Thought I would share a couple of pictures of this little slice of paradise. It is known for it's winter storms and we were lucky enough to get both calm and stormy weather.

Thanks for stopping by and have a terrific day and wonderful weekend.

hugs & hearts

This day is momentous... well for me it is anyway (haha).  This is the first time in years (literally - likely since the fall of 2013 when I started my MSc) that I have posted a card just for fun.  No challenge, no blog hop, no ulterior motive.  I was inspired by this card from my super duper talented friend Jenn Shurkus.  Isn't it awesome?!?!?!

So this is my attempt at the same technique... the word and hearts have Glossy Accents on them.  I may have to take another photo to show that off a little better.

What do you think? Pretty happy with it... and will be trying it again. Looking back at Jenn's card again, I'll have to try inking the edges of the word so it stands out a bit better.

Jenn's card makes me want some geometric backgrounds, more word die cuts and a pair of good crafting tweezers.  My fingers got pretty inky and sticky doing those little glossy hearts! Minimizing my crafty spending right now though (dang unemployment thing) and just trying to use what I have (which is still a lot).

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a wonderful week.

Lots of Leaves

Happy Thursday crafters!  Hope you are having a great week! I'm keeping myself solidly busy while I'm unemployed - exercising, reading and socializing... and job hunting of course, but that's boring.

We are solidly entrenched in autumn here in Canada and our theme for Seize the Birthday - 'lots of leaves'. I know these colours aren't aligned with the season but I really liked this leafy patterned paper.

Hope you are able to join us this week.  All the details are on the blog.  Be sure to check out all the great design team creations along with our surprise party guest. We have three new DT members too so please check out their blogs! A big welcome to Ashwini RaoSandy Mathis and TaeEun Yoo.

Papercrafters go purple ... for a great cause

Hey crafty friends... Becca Cruger over at The Damsel of Distressed Cards is hosting a blog hop to raise awareness for Domestic Violence.  While I am fortunate enough to have never experienced  domestic partner abuse, I know others who have. We have to keep supporting survivors and keep talking about it to raise awareness and erase the shame and stigma.

All the details about the hop are here if you are interested in joining in ... paper crafters are turning the blogosphere purple to raise awareness.  I want to thank Becca so much for doing this and commend her on her ongoing courage.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Have a great week.

Sweet!!!

Hey crafty friends... happy Thursday!  Hope you're having a great week!  I'm in my first week of unemployment (or as I'm told to say 'funemployment' - haha) - trying to enjoy it and keep busy.

This week is a 'topping free' week at Seize the Birthday.  I received a new Concorde & 9th stamp set (Sweet & Cool) from a friend so had to use this sentiment for my birthday card this week.  You may not be able to see it but the cherry has Glossy Accents on it and the icing has glitter.

Hope you can play along with us!  Be sure to check out the blog and the rest of the fabulous designs from the rest of the team.

Soft & Simple

Big apologies crafty friends!  I have no good excuse for the lateness of my Seize the Birthday post other than I simply forgot! Better late than never... hope you are having a great week.

Our theme this week is soft & simple.  I couldn't resist using some green vellum for the jar on this card.  It was a total experiment but like how it turned out.

Hope you can play along with us.  All the details and the fabulous DT creations are up on the blog.

Fabulous frames

Happy Friday Eve my crafty friends!  Hope you are having a terrific day and wonderful week so far.  Life is busy for me but fun busy. :)  One thing I may not have mentioned is that I'm done my job at the end of the month (got a lay off notice) so I'm happily on the hunt for a new opportunity. Hoping that newly minted MSc will help. :)

Time for Seize the Birthday and we are playing with frames this week.  Remember, our toppings are always optional.

All the details on how to play along are on the blog.  Check out the rest of the DT creations and our Surprise Party Guest as well.

Tag - you're it!

Happy Thursday friends!  I have affectionately started referring to Thursday as "Friday Eve", makes the weekend seem closer.  It's not my unique idea.... borrowed it from my friend C.J. ;)

This week at Seize the Birthday, we are doing tags!  Playing with my paints and stencils again to created this one.  Always find the bright colours so striking on the black tags.

Remember, our 'toppings' are always optional and the only thematic requirement is birthday!  Also, to be eligible to win, the project can been linked to a maximum of five challenges (including Seize the Birthday).  All the rest of the details are over at the blog.  Be sure to give some love to the rest of the design team too!!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I appreciate your comments!  I don't have much chance to get around to comment but always grateful when you leave one here.
Have a terrific day and a wonderful weekend,

Woo freakin hoo

Happy Thursday crafters!  Hope all is well in your world.  Having a great summer here but having a hard time believing it's the second week of August.

The Seize the Birthday challenge today is anything goes/no toppings.  I got this cheeky stamp set from a friend recently so couldn't resist using it for this week. It's pretty funny and also fun to colour with my watercolour pencils.  Not sure if you can see it but I've also added some Glossy Accents to the balloon.

Check out the blog for the details on how to play along.  Also check out the fabulous creations from our design team and our surprise party guest!

Pink (kinda') & brown

Hey there crafty friends.  Hope you are having a wonderful week so far.  Our 'second summer' (we had a warm spring & then it cooled off a bit) has arrived here and I am loving the warmth. Hard to believe it's the end of July though...

At Seize the Birthday this week, the topping/option is pink & brown.  My pink is almost red (Distress Ink Abandoned Coral) which, for me, is the best kind of pink (regular visitors know my feelings on pink).

Hope you can play along with us!  All the details and fabulous DT creations are here.  Be sure to check out the rest of the DT blogs and give them some crafty love!

Happy Thursday lovely crafters!  Hope you are having a fabulous week.  I'm off work this week and chilling out so I definitely have no complaints!

The Seize the Birthday topping/option this week is bold & bright. This is an easy one for me as I love bright colours.  I was inspired by going to the local Pride parade on Sunday - lots of rainbows & love going on. :)  First time I have attended and it was super fun!

Hope you can play along with us.  All of the details on how to play along are on the blog.  Be sure to check out the fabulous designs from the rest of the DT .... and leave then some love.

Fluttering by...

Happy Thursday! Hope life is treating you well crafty friends. I'm looking forward to our upcoming long weekend (Canada Day tomorrow) ... took an extra day off on Monday to relax a little bit longer.

The Seize the Birthday topping/option this week is 'bees, birds or butterflies'.... but it's always an option and birthday is really the only 'must'.  Having fun with sponges and stencil again this week.  One thing I did on this card that is a bit of a 'trick'.... I coloured my pearls with Copics.  I didn't have yellow or pink pearls so grabbed my markers and added some colour to some white pearls.

Hope you can play along this week!  All the details are on the blog. Give some love to the rest of the DT - they have created some beautiful cards using our favourite winged creatures.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend,

Happy Day

Hope you are have a great week crafty friends! I am enjoying some time off work - celebrating my official graduation with my school friend and then off to visit family for a few days.

The Seize the Birthday challenge is 'topping-free' this week so I just did some mucking around to see what I could come up with.  Ended up with this rare 'stamp-free' card that encompasses three of my favourite Distress Inks - Mermaid Lagoon, Twist Citron and Seedless Preserves. Hope you like it.

Hope you can play along with us.  All the details, as well as the rest of the terrific design team creations, are on the blog.

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
